What are the production deadlines to ensure a book is published before the end of the year?

The Ubiquity book production team typically works with the below timelines:
  • Books with full typesetting: 11 week turnaround
  • Books with limited production*: 6 week turnaround
  • Books with no pre-publication services: 7 day turnaround

The lead up to the end of the year gets very busy for book production and publication services, so schedules may need to be slightly extended. We therefore require that all book projects are submitted before the below dates to ensure that they are published before the end of the year.

Deadlines for book production to be published before Christmas holidays, i.e. on or before Monday, 23 December

  • 7th October: full production books (that require all production services, i.e. PDF typesetting, proofing, print setup, EPUB typesetting, online publication)
  • 11th November: 'part production' books (that require some services — e.g. no PDF typesetting, but EPUB typesetting and print setup)
  • 16 December: online only books (that do not require PDF or EPUB typesetting, proofing, or print setup)

Notes:

  • Ubiquity book production staff will be off from 24 Dec to 01 Jan, so no book publications will take place during this time unless previously arranged.
  • We cannot guarantee publication dates if the author and/or press miss their proofing deadlines. The above deadlines are based on our standard proofing schedule.
  • The above deadline for full production books includes standard one round of proofing and one round of review/sign-off. If additional rounds of proofing are requested after the book enters production, we will not be able to guarantee publication
  • If you know a book is coming to typesetting that may be complex — e.g. lots of images/figures; first book from a new press; book typeset on a new template; etc. — it's best to be conservative with turnaround times and pad the above dates with an extra two weeks. This includes any books that are being submitted in LaTex format.
  • *Turnaround times for 'part production' books depends on the services selected — the above deadline is a conservative estimate, but this can likely be shortened. Best to get in touch with Ubiquity in advance to confirm a schedule for part production books.
