Accessibility statement for ]u[ Ubiquity publisher sites (inc. Books)
Ubiquity provides the technical infrastructure for many university and society presses. At Ubiquity, our mission is to make knowledge and research freely available to everyone. We believe that open access is only truly realized when that access is equitable and inclusive. Ensuring our content is accessible to the widest possible audience, regardless of ability, is therefore not just a technical consideration, it's a fundamental pillar of our commitment to open science and global knowledge sharing.
This statement provides accessibility information to users of the publisher’s platform, including book publications.

Scope
This statement details accessibility information related to the Ubiquity Press Press Portal platform front end. It does not cover any modifications made to the platform from its original state or content that has been uploaded.
Web Standards
The Ubiquity Press publisher platform front end is developed using valid HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. It strives to meet the standards laid out in the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2.1) - Level AA.
Currently, the Ubiquity Press publisher platform front end content partially supports assistive technologies that visitors might use, such as screen readers or text only browsers. We are working to achieve complete support with updates in the coming 12 months.
Auditing
We undertake accessibility audits of the Ubiquity Press publisher platform front end before every major update using WCAG 2.1 AA standards that guide our long-term audit and improvement plans.
What we do about known issues
We work to achieve and maintain WCAG 2.1 AA standards, but it is not always possible for all our content to be accessible. Where content is likely to create a barrier, we’ll state a reason, warn users and offer alternatives. Learn more about our known accessibility issues.
If we have failed to identify a barrier, please contact us.
Contacting Us
Please contact us if you have any problems. Be as specific and detailed as you can. Please also tell us what you like and find useful.
The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) has useful tips on contacting organisations about inaccessible websites.
When you contact us there is a process in place that will acknowledge your contact, tell you who is dealing with it and give you a timescale by which you can expect a reply.

Known Issues
As part of our commitment to improving accessibility, we publish all issues identified in our audits on this page.
Issue | Where is it found? | What we are doing about it |
1.2.5 Audio Description (Prerecorded) | Embedding video (via the YouTube player) is optional. The Press portal frontend supports embedding videos from either Vimeo or YouTube. Vimeo’s player supports multiple audio tracks, which can include Audio Description. YouTube’s player only supports multiple audio tracks for different languages. |
We encourage those interested in adding video to their press portal to do so using Vimeo. YouTube is said to be developing audio description support, but Ubiquity has no influence over this timeline. |
