Release notes: Book & Press platform (2025)

Notes on the live releases to the Ubiquity book and press platform are listed below, including bug fixes, new features, and enhancements to existing functionality. Bug fixes specific to individual installations are not listed. The dates given are for the end of the development sprint cycle, not the exact date that the release was completed.

PLAT-1299	Enhancement	Press: Citation details	The details of citing sources are now displayed as part of the citation metrics for books. Previously the citation data only showed the number of citations and a graph over time. If the reader now clicks on the citation number they will now be presented with a table of information about the citing source, including the DOI linking to it. See https://doi.org/10.5334/bax as an example - click on the citation number and scroll below the graph.
PLAT-1928	New function	Press: Button block	The press CMS now has a 'Button' block in the page builder, making it very simple to add buttons onto the custom pages. Full information is available in the CMS User Guide.
PLAT-2435	Enhancement	Press: Table of Contents block update	The Table of Contents block in the press CMS now includes a 'Sticky' setting. When enabled, the table of contents will scroll down the page as the reader moves down, making the ToC more prominent from different parts of the page. Full information is available in the CMS User Guide.
PLAT-2430	Enhancement	Press: Book metadata display & feeds	Book publication pages now include the Thema and BIASC codes on the metdata column. Downloadable ONIX, Crossref XML, MARC, BibTeX, KBART files are also now available at the bottom of the metadata page so that anyone can use the book metadata.
PLAT-2488	Bug fix	Press: Text block editor	The Text block contained display errors when using the Heading or Alignment options. These have been fixed.
PLAT-2501	Enhancement	Press: Staff block image size	The Staff block allows a press to display images of their staff/teams. The setting dictating the size of the images has been enhanced so that images can go larger than previously permitted.

Various	New Feature	Rua/Press: Book metadata feeds	Rua now automatically generates validated metadata feeds for all books that are published on the press platform. Feeds are currently available for: ONIX (2.1) ONIX (3.0) ONIX (3.1) Crossref XML MARC BIBTEX KBART These open metadata feeds are provided with a CC0 licence and available for any 3rd party to utilise to aid dissemination of the book content. Work is now commensing to surface these feeds more visibly on the press websites.
Various	New feature	Rua: Fundref integration	Rua now includes functionality to include funding information for a book via the Fundref integration. Book publications may log the funder and grant details during the pre-publication metadata entry. Rua will match the funder name to their registered ID and include the funder details within the metadata feeds associated with the book (see above). If the funder is not in the Fundref registry then it is possible to still add the details, but a funder ID will not be matched.
PLAT-2370	Enhancement	Press: Advanced site on book Series, SDG and Publisher pages	The advanced search function has been extended so that it is no longer only available on the main search page. PLAT-2388	Bug fix	Press: advance search ISSN field	The press Advanced Search includes a field to search for specific ISSN data, however, not all journals were being indexed with this data. This has been updated so that the Advanced search will now cover all journal fields listed
PLAT-2398	Bug fix	Press: contact form	Some presses were showing errors when the contact form was used, due to configuration errors. These have been fixed and all forms now send correctly.

PLAT-1766	Enhancement	Press: file names	Book files downloaded from the press site were previously given file names based on unique identifiers from the platform. This has bene updated so that the file names will be retained to show how they were originally uploaded to the platform.
PLAT-2428	Enhancement	Press: image setting refinements	The newly introduced image options within the Text block (see PLAT-1915) have been updated. The placement of the settings is now more user friendly and any images added will appear on their own row, with alignment options available.
PLAT-2442	Enhancement	Metrics: widget headings	The metrics block has been updated so that book metrics now includes a heading to show the metrics section and accompanying text telling the reader that they can click the metrics count to expand the details and show the associated graphs and tables.

PLAT-2314	New Feature	Press: Trending books block	A new content block has been added to the press CMS. It is now possible for a press to display books with the most useage within a set period, allowing users to see titles with highest 'impact'. The way that the metrics are calculated are configurable to suit the press' focus. Full information is available in the press user guide and videos.
PLAT-2416	New feature	Press: individual SDG books lists	Each press platform now includes an entry for 'Sustainable Development Goal' on their webpage list. This will allow a press to present published books associated with the specific SDGs on a single publication list - e.g. https://uplopen.com/sustainable-development-goals/climate-action. The CMS settings allow a press to add customisable text to the top of the page as well as dictate whether the logo and search bar appear or not.
PLAT-2349	Bug fix	Press: mobile view	The Announcements page for a press didn't display well when lots of quick links were present. The display has now been updated so that these now appear as a scroll option at the top of the page when on a small screen.

When added to a page this block will automatically display all headings displayed on the page as a list of contents. For more information, see the CMS user guide.
PLAT-1915	Enhancement	Press: Image options from Text block	When adding an image to a press page via a Text block, the press user will now be presented with the ability to: add alt text align the image resize the image Clicking on the image within the Text editor will bring up the setting options. More information can be found in the CMS user guide.
PLAT-1916	Enhancement	Press: Bordering in Table block	The Table block in the press CMS now includes options to include a border around the cells. Options include setting the border width and the colour of the lines. More information can be found in the CMS user guide.
PLAT-2347	Enhancement	Press: ordered and unordered list component styles	If an ordered or unordered list is added to a press page the format of nested lists will follow a set style. Should a press wish to use a custom style, the HTML can be directly edited.
PLAT-2391	Enhancement	Rua: User Help button	The 'Help' button in Rua now points the user to https://presses.support.ubiquity.pub/, where user guides can be found.
PLAT-2414	Bug fix	Press: Multilingual functionality	Presses with multiple languages were temporarily showing loading errors. This was fixed.

PLAT-1946	Bug fix	Press: chapter author names	Middle initials for chapter authors were not displaying despite being in the metadata. This has been corrected so that the full name displays.

PLAT-2169	Bug fix	Press site: Announcements & RSS feed display	In some display configurations and window sizes the Announcements and RSS feeds had overlapping texts. This has been fixed.

Press platform: Book citation error

The Harvard citation displayed an error if the book was an edited volume with more than 3 editors. This formatting error has now been corrected.

	New Feature	Rua: Enhanced digital formats	Two updates have been made concerning the Digital Formats for a book: It is now possible to add a digital format prior to publication without uploading a file. This allows ‘coming soon’ books to display ISBN information without making a file public prior to publication It is now possible to add an ‘Online’ publication format. If a book has content published elsewhere (e.g. an interactive textbook) then the online format can now point readers to the location

PLAT-1386 & PLAT-1841	New Feature	Rua: Enhanced metadata	Rua now has functionality to select both BISAC and Thema codes from within the system, including an option to map the BISAC to Thema, if desired. These metadata entries then feed into the public API, allowing for increased metadata both on the press platform an external platforms that use the public API.
PLAT-1779	Enhancement	Metrics: Clarification of terms	After the change of metrics system in 2023, the terminology of the data was not clear. The metrics definitions have now been updated so that they are more understandable: `(Press GA)` is now `(Publisher site <July 2023)` `(Press logs)` is now `(Publisher site >July 2023)` The earlier metrics are from the original Ubiquity metrics platform. The later metrics are following the switch to the OPERAS metrics platform.
PLAT-1786	New Feature	Metrics: Google Books	Books that have been added into Google Books will now show as part of the aggregated book data. Google Books data now appears when the ‘Abstract Views’ and ‘Reads’ are expanded - e.g. see Dead Men’s Propaganda \| LSE Press.

PLAT-1387	New Feature	Rua: Proposal and Submission notification emails	A function has been added to dictate which Press Editors receive email notifications when a new proposal or submission is received. Previously all Press Editor users would receive the email. There is now a setting in the Manager > Notifications menu in Rua to dictate which users should receive the email. If no user has been selected then the default will be that all Press Editors are notified.
PLAT-1395	Enhancement	Rua: Deletion of unwanted books in Rua	Processes have been put in place so that is a book is deleted from Rua then all associated data and files are also removed (e.g from press website search results).
PLAT-1751	Enhancement	Metrics: Crossref CitedBy definition	The OPERAS metrics include links to definitions for each data source. This was missing for citations. Expanding the Citations data on the publication page will now provide a link to a definition that describes how the data is collected.
PLAT-1804	Bug Fix	Rua: Publications table ordering	The table of published books didn’t correctly list the titles when filters to show in publication date order. This has been fixed.

PLAT-1764	New Feature	Rua: Archive function for proposals	Following from PLAT-1389 (below), Rua now has an Archive function for proposals as well as full submissions. The Archive function appears for all submissions and will be useful to complete tasks such as removing duplicate submissions, or removing books where the author withdraws, without having to contribute to editorial decision metrics. Archived books will be avaiable via the Overview page. It is also possible to unarchive a book. Instructions have been added to the Rua Editor Guide.
PLAT-1800	Bug fix	Metrics: collection/display errors	The display of some metrics was temporarily not updating on the journal/book websites. This has now been fixed.
