Understanding the Editor Dashboard
The Editor Dashboard shows all full submissions (i.e. not book proposals) that have been submitted and are being processed by the editorial team. Clicking on the ‘Editor Dashboard’ button in the top menu will provide access to all information relating to active projects. Only users with Press Editor or Book Editor permissions will have this button displayed.
The Editor dashboard comprises of three columns:
- Project list: a list of all full submission projects that have not yet been rejected or published (i.e. they are in-process). These can be filtered using the options at the top of the column. Each project will provide the:
- Book ID
- Title
- Author
- Submission date
- Current editorial stage
- Notifications: a list of notifications that are relevant to your specific user account. Some of these will link to the next task. Once the user has seen the notification they can click the ‘Mark as Read’ button to remove it from their dashboard
- Recent Activity: a list of recently completed actions/tasks within the book platform
Each project will be assigned to an editorial stage, which will change as it proceeds through the editorial process. These stages are:
- New submission: all submissions that have not been sent for review, have not been sent back to the author for revisions, or have not been rejected - i.e. they are still at the start of the editorial process
- In Review: all submissions that have had the review process started. This could be anywhere between sourcing reviewers and making an editorial decision to accept, reject or ask for revisions
- In Editing: all submissions that have been editorially accepted but are undergoing final editorial stages (e.g. copyediting) prior to typesetting and publication
- In Production: all accepted submissions that have had their final files sent to the production team for layout and publication
The project list
Once a book has been submitted, it will show as a new project in the left hand column of the Editor Dashboard. The project will include a yellow tag with the text ‘New Submission’, making it easy to identify.
As default the list of open projects are ordered by Book ID, with the most recent submissions appearing at the bottom of the list. The filter at the top of the column allows the user to display the list in alphabetical order, or display only specific stages of the editorial process. Clicking the ‘Overview’ button at the top of the list will display all projects, listed by editorial stage.
Press Editors will be able to see all submissions that are active within the system.
Book Editors will only be able to see books that are assigned to them.
Clicking on the project box will allow the user to enter the project, access submission data, files and make editorial actions.
